Tsukiji is a huge and nationally known market in Tokyo. There are many good restaurants in the inner and outer market to delight palates of workers with sharp eyes and developed sense of taste.
Unfortunately, all restaurants in the inner market will close doors as Tsukiji Market relocates to Toyosu in 2016. This is the final year to have a meal in the atmosphere we enjoy now.
Sushi is the emblematic food of Tsukiji Market. From among 11 sushi restaurants of the inner market, we recommend Isozushi, a “secret” restaurant.
First reason: You can have a good feed of many different kinds of sushi topping
Try the restaurant’s specialty dish that only serves 30 portions per day. Although the dish is worth about 5,000 yen, the first 30 people are fortunate to appreciate the delicacy like fatty tuna, sea urchin, squid, horse mackerel and more for only 2,400 yen, which is less than half of original price.
Second reason: Firmer rice and sushi topping go very well together
In Isozushi, the rice is cooked firm. A texture of resilient rice has strong presence in the mouth and it matches well with the selection of fresh ingredient.
Highly selected fatty tuna harmonizes with vinegared rice that is melting in the mouth. Without making any greasy feeling, it only leaves light and sweet aftertaste.
Squid has crispy touch and sweetness from inside. Rich salmon roe, creamy sea urchin and viscous scallop are exquisitely prepared. Every topping goes well with vinegared rice. Once you eat, you can tell that the genuine sushi is the culmination of finest ingredients and professional techniques.
Third reason: You may not stand in line to get inside the restaurant
Isozushi is located in Tsukiji Market No. 10 building, which is in a little distance away from other sushi restaurants and first Yoshinoya (a famous beef bowl chain). And also, sometimes visitors have preconceptions of the restaurant that create lines is better. Therefore, Isozushi has become a good restaurant with no or short line of people waiting. Only gourmets with knowledge of this restaurant frequent Isozushi. Other good thing about Isozushi is that it has longer opening hours on weekdays compared to other sushi restaurants in the inner market.
Actually we don’t want to tell people about this restaurant. However, we only have few months to enjoy sushi in Tsukiji before the whole inner market relocates to Toyosu in 2016.
